The WSJM Sports Player of the Week is Grace Chisek of Watervliet high school softball. Grace is a junior at Watervliet and carries a 4.0 GPA.
During the week, Watervliet went a perfect 7-0, sweeping a doubleheader against Allegan 17-0, 15-1. Two days later, Watervliet swept another doubleheader against Delton-Kellog, winning 18-7 and 7-5. Then that Saturday, Watervliet not only took part in, but won the Gull Lake softball invitational Gold Division Championship, after defeating Division 1 Byron Center 8-3, beating Division 2 Vicksburg 12-8, and then beating 17th ranked Grass Lake 10-8 in the Champion Game. In those 7 game, Grace was 15 of 27 at the plate with 2 home runs, a triple, 11 RBI, and 15 runs scored. She also drew a number of walks during her plate appearances. Grace is also a member of the Panther Volleyball, and Basketball teams, and was named MVP for volleyball, and co-MVP for basketball. We talked with Grace and Watervliet head coach Tom Golden on Thursday prior to a doubleheader against Dowagiac.
