St. Joe soccer opens season with 4-3 win at Edwardsburg

The St. Joseph boys soccer team opened up the 2019 season with a 4-3 comeback victory at Edwardsburg on Saturday. Edwardsburg scored 2:37 into the game on a goal from Brendan Leniski. St. Joseph would tie the game a little more than 10 minutes later on a goal from Jacob Scouler. Less than 6 minutes later Edwardsburg’s Brodie Sailee converted on a St. Joe defensive miscue and regained a 2-1 lead. After halftime St. Joe evened the game just 1:20 into the second half on Scouler’s 2nd goal of the game. St. Joe would grab their first lead of the match about 5 minutes later on a goal from Casey Miller. Tyler Burnette gave St. Joe a 4-2 lead in the 52nd minute. Edwarsburg would pull to within a goal in the 64th minute by Anthony Castelluci on a penalty kick. St. Joe improves to 1-0 on the season and will be at Battle Creek Central on Monday night.
