Nolan Wertanen of St. Joseph High School Wrestling is the WSJM Sports Berrien County Student Athlete of the Week for the week of February 16, 2020.
Nolan went 3-0 in capturing the Individual Regional Championship at 103 lbs. He adds the regional crown to his District and Berrien County titles. With his performance at Regionals, Nolan improved to 42-2 and is ranked #1 in the state heading into the state finals.
Nolan is also a member of the St. Joseph Student Foundation. In the classroom, he carries a 3.98 grade point average.
Nolan is the son of Chris and Pam Wertanen of St. Joe.
Other finalists for the week were Cole Alsup of Coloma Wrestling, Trever Pelton of Watervliet Wrestling, Hunter Heath of Brandywine Wrestling, and Samantha Dietz of Watervliet Basketball.
