Jeanine Wasielewski goes from Dowagiac to Piscataway, the now former head coach of the Southwestern Michigan College Roadrunners women’s basketball team announced last month she was stepping down to take another coaching position elsewhere.   However, it wasn’t announced where that position would be.

That was revealed yesterday when Rutgers University announced that Wasielewski has accepted a position with the Scarlet Knights.  She will be an assistant coach for Head Coach Coquese Washington in her second season for Rutgers.   Wasielewski will also serve as Director of Player Enhancement.

Wasielewski spent two years at SMC, spending the first year recruiting to bring back the Roadrunners Women’s Basketball team after a 25-year hiatus.  SMC went 18-9 in their first season of competition and 8-4 in the MCCAA West Division, which tied for 3rd.  Wasielewski’s team of all freshman went 13-1 at home during the season.

Wasielewski is no stranger to the Big Ten Conference, she previously was an assistant for current Rutgers head coach Coquese Washington at Penn State University. Wasielewski played in the Big Ten and was a four year letter winner for Northwestern University, helping the Wildcats win the Big Ten Conference in 1990, was a team captain her senior year and was Academic All-Conference three times.

Southwestern Michigan College has yet to name a new head coach after Wasielewski’s resignation in June.
