The Fennville varsity football season has come to an end after week 4. In a post on social media on Tuesday, the Fennville Athletic Department announced the rest of the 2023 varsity football season has been cancelled. Citing Injuries and a lack of healthy upper classman, the Blackhawks will only continue with their Junior Varsity program for the remainder of the season.
Fennville says the injuries of several of the key players on the varsity team, they were left with replacing those injured players with sophomore or freshman players. Starting those undersized and unexperienced players brings up concerns for the safety of those players. Fennville had 5 seniors on their varsity team, but 84% of the total roster for their varsity team would consist of players in grades 9 or 10.
Fennville is allowing the two juniors to continue on the Junior Varsity team, and they will still hold a senior night for the senior football players, cheerleaders and marching band members, with more details on that to come later.
Fennville was schedule to host defending state champion Martin this Friday night.
