No Class C Champions this season

The most recent Class C Boys Basketball Champion is Kalamazoo Christian. who defeated Flint Beecher 54-51 to win the 2008 Class C State Championship... yes 2008.  As it turns out there is no 2009 Class C Champions.  Less than two weeks after defeating Schoolcraft, Melvindale Academy for Business and Technology has been stripped of their Championship by the MHSAA for using an ineligible player.

Melvindale AB&T is a charter school that's been around for about a dozen years or so and the problem that took the title out of their hands was a senior player who was actually in his 5th year of high school.

The student has attended 4 different high schools, according to the Detroit Free Press.  In addition to AB&T, he attended Lincoln Park, River Rouge, and Old Redford.

While it looks like the student changed schools a lot, and it's hard to keep track of them transferring to 4 different schools.  But the blame is not really on just AB&T, but the family of the student and the previous 3 schools.  They are required by the MHSAA to fill out the correct paperwork when a student transfers.  If the student has transferred there should be a legit papertrail between the four schools.

Oh did I mention that the kids parents are even more to blame.  Because they wanted their son to play, they were willing to break the rules and lie and cheat.   The lie has caught up to them and it cost their son the state title, but also the team, their school, and not to mention every other Class C team they beat along the way!!!

The biggest loser in all this is Schoolcraft. the Class C runner up who do not assume the Class C Championship because of MHSAA rules,  They reached the state finals only to have their chance at a championship snatched away by a team that shouldn't even have been playing.
